T minus 90 Days & Counting

It's October! Wait! What? If you're anything like us you were completely shocked when the calendar turned a page to October, and if you live in Canada the colour of the trees likely turned too. While I embrace fall and all things pumpkin or turkey I can't help but think "Where did 2022 go?" But rather than focusing on all the days that seem like a blur, instead, I invite you to strategically plan out the last 90 ish days of 2022 and knock off some of those goals you laid out on January 1.

I read a book earlier this year titled The 12 Week Year: Get More Done in 12 Weeks than Others Do in 12 Months by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lennington. In it, the authors discuss how most people will take as long as they give themselves to attain or achieve any goal set out. So rather than have goals for the year (2022) they recommend breaking the year up into four 12-week years, condensing the time allotted to achieve your goals and thereby increasing your likelihood of doing so.

“We mistakenly believe that there is a lot of time left in the year, and we act accordingly. We lack a sense of urgency, not realizing that every week is important, every day is important, every moment is important. Ultimately, effective execution happens daily and weekly!” ― Brian P. Moran, The 12 Week Year: Get More Done in 12 Weeks than Others Do in 12 Months

How to make the most of the last 90 ish days

Identify your KEY Focus Areas. Key areas in your life that you can choose to focus on include: Relationships, Health, Personal Growth, Work that Matters, Finances, or Fun!

Make a list of short-term goals, outcomes, or objectives that you want to accomplish for each key area of focus. Make sure you are choosing things that are possible to do in 90 days. (Remember S.M.A.R.T. goals)

Each week choose 3 specific actions that will move you towards any of your goals. They have to be actions you can control... Winning the lottery to address your dreams of financial freedom is not something you can control, although it would be pretty awesome.

At the end of the week, check-in on your progress. Evaluate whether you completed your 3 actions, if they garnered the results you were expecting, and then decide what your 3 actions for next week need to be.

Repeat this process every week for the remainder of the 90 days.

Recognize you can't do everything at once. Choose goals that will make the most impact on your life and move you the closest to your longer-term goals. If you really want to make significant progress in your Finances you may have to forego the goals you've identified in the "Fun" zone. However, if Relationships are more a focus for you then consider reprioritizing your Finances and your Fun to support achieving the goals you've laid out.

To become great, you must choose to allocate your time to your greatest opportunities. You will have to choose to spend time on the difficult things that create your biggest payoffs. To be great you will need to live with intention. That will require you to be clear on what matters most, and then to have the courage to say no to things that distract you.”― Brian P. Moran, The 12 Week Year
